Ergonomics has become a hot word these days, often referring to a product designed to make work easier on the body. However tempting it may be to purchase these products with the hope that the magic intervention will diminish all our pains, often these products miss the mark. Ergonomics is literally the “study of work” and looks at the interface of humans in their environment. Often product intervention can make the difference between cumulative pain and an enjoyable workday. However, the individual and their interaction with their environment is the key. If the product isn’t fit for the individual in their environment, it does not help decrease stress on the body, and it is not ergonomic.
Ergonomic consulting assesses the compatibility of the workstation of each individual, whether for an office worker, a painter, a jewelry maker, a tattooist or any other professional. A consultant alters the workstation to fit the individual, creating a harmonious relationship between worker and their environment, thereby decreasing stress.
